Mousetalgia Episode 261: Sam Gennawey on Disneyland, spooky movies

Author Sam Gennawey joins Team Mousetalgia this week to discuss his new book "The Disneyland Story: The Unofficial Guide to the Evolution of Walt Disney's Dream." Calling Disneyland Walt Disney's "third child," Gennawey talks about the unique challenges and circumstances that led to the creation of the theme park many consider the most magical place on earth. Also this week, we look at a couple spooky not-Disney movies that are actually quite Disney related. "Escape from Tomorrow," the Sundance sensation, is first-time director Randy Moore's film secretly shot largely on location inside of Disney theme parks, and Jeff and Kristen offer dual reviews and opinions on the controversial piece. The Haunting, a 1963 film by Robert Wise, tells the chilling tale of a haunted house that bears a striking resemblance to another haunted mansion we all know and love, and Jeff takes a closer look at the role Wise's film played in the development of a classic Disneyland attraction. Plus - our favorite Disney parks skeletons... and more!

Mousetalgia Episode 259: Knotts Halloween Haunt vs. Disneyland

Jeff visit's Knott's annual "Halloween Haunt" in this fearfully fiendish episode of Mousetalgia! As the spooking season gets under way, we compare Knott's venerable "Haunt" with Disneyland's "Mickey's Halloween Party" to compare and contrast the two extraordinarily popular seasonal events. While Knott's features scares, mazes, and entertainment for mature audiences (Elvira is back!), Disneyland focuses on characters, atmosphere, and candy, candy - and more candy. Is either attraction better or worse? Do the audiences overlap? You be the judge as we look at the features of both events. Also, ABC's fall lineup is garnering praise as well as jeers - Kristen shares a few thoughts about some of the new shows. Plus, a listener reviews a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland - and more! *Special note: There are a few moments in the show that include descriptions of some aspects of the Knott's event that might be offensive to sensitive or younger listeners. For our family audience, parental discretion is advised for this episode of Mousetalgia.
